I started my college career as a nursing major at Black Hills State University in Spearfish South Dakota. Living there was awesome. I went skiing in the winter, golfing in the summer, and waited tables all through my undergraduate career. I had the best times waiting tables during the Corvette and Sturgis Rallies.
I transferred to the University of Wyoming (Go Pokes!) and although I loved everything about my classes, I had a change of heart and decided that I wanted to be a Marriage and Family Therapist. I honestly didn't even know what major that was. I decided on Psychology and later picked up a Minor in Child and Family Studies. I became a research assistant for the Psychology and Law Department, Criminal Justice Department, and Abnormal Child Psychology Department. Needless to say, I dove right in to my passion.
The spring before my graduation, I was accepted to Texas Tech University for my Master's degree. I worked as a research assistant, inputting data. I also worked as a research assistant/Mental Health Specialist for Texas Tech University Early Head Start. That was an invaluable experience that I draw wisdom upon to this day. I loved the department and faculty, so I stayed for my doctorate degree. I later became a graduate teaching assistant, where I taught undergraduate students. I love my experiences teaching and will strive to keep that in the mix for years to come.
My dissertation was on therapists' use of mindfulness, the helping alliance and client outcomes.

Now, I stay busy with my private practice, supervising other therapists, and offer an assortment of trainings.

In my spare time, I love training for races, gardening and yard work, diy projects, photography, crafting, food, dog agility training, anything involving animals, and being a mom.
This image I found on Pinterest describes exactly why I love what I do and who I work with. Watching someone speak, share, draw, (whatever medium it is) what is important to them and having that epiphany moment, is why I am so engaged in my work.
